Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28 1967 as the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts is fourth in the Roberts generation to reside in Atlanta that began with her farmer great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts. She inherited her father's interest in the theatre at a young age. He acted on the Emory University campus in 1952 and was also involved in productions outside of Atlanta. In 1953, he joined the Air Force and while stationed at Biloxi in Mississippi acted in an production along with Betty Lou Bredemus. They got married in the year 1955, and their first son Eric Anthony was born in 1956. In 1957, the couple left the military and Walter enrolled at Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. Walter was employed by Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In 1960, the couple relocated in Decatur Georgia. The year 1964 was when Walter along with Betty Lou began production on an on-sunday morning local children's television program called Bum Bum and His Buddies which they funded by themselves. They founded an Actors and Writers Workshop in that same year. It lasted six years. They had Lelisa Billingsley (also called Lisa) and Julia (also also known as Julie) in this time.
